How to Add Administrator Access to Your Website

Published On: March 24, 2025|Last Updated: March 24, 2025|

Sometimes you need to let a trusted developer or support team member access your website to make updates, troubleshoot an issue, or help with a redesign. The good news? You can do this without giving away your ownership or full control of your site.

Here’s how to securely add admin-level access, based on the type of website you have.

1. WordPress Sites

Most BigFyre customers use WordPress—and thankfully, WordPress makes user access easy.

To add a new Administrator:

  1. Log into your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Go to Users > Add New.
  3. Fill in the following:
    • Username (make it simple, like bigfyre-support)
    • Email Address (use the email provided by your designer or support team)
    • Optional: First and Last Name
  4. Choose the Role: Select Administrator from the dropdown.
  5. Check Send the new user an email if you want them to set their own password.
  6. Click Add New User.

🔐 Security Tip: When you’re done working with a developer or agency, you can change their role or delete their account anytime—your site stays yours.

2. Static Sites (HTML/CSS/JS)

If your site is static (no dashboard or CMS), you’ll need to provide access another way—usually through your hosting platform.

To share access to a static site:

  1. Log in to your hosting account (e.g., GoDaddy, cPanel, Cloudflare Pages, Netlify).
  2. Go to the site’s project or environment.
  3. Look for a Team, Access, or Users section.
  4. Add the collaborator’s email address and assign the correct role (e.g., Developer or Admin).
  5. Save your changes. Your teammate will get an invite.

✅ BigFyre can help you with static site setups—just contact our team if you’re not sure how your site is structured.

3. Site Builders (Squarespace, Wix, Shopify, etc.)

If you’re using a site builder platform like Squarespace, Wix, Weebly, or Shopify, adding an admin depends on that specific service.

General steps:

  1. Log into your account on the platform’s website.
  2. Go to Settings or Users.
  3. Find Permissions, Team, or Collaborators.
  4. Add the person’s email address and assign them an Admin or Editor role.

⚠️ Important Note from BigFyre
We can’t directly access or migrate your site from these platforms unless you’ve granted proper permissions. Even then, some platforms limit what we can do. If you’re planning a move to BigFyre and want to migrate away from a builder like Wix or Squarespace, please contact our support team before making changes.
